Oh man a monster; monsters are just fabulous. (Also the fact that you're posting monster-related artwork to a group that has monsters in the name makes me curious as to what it is. I'm going to have to potentially check it out when I've got more time.) First off, those are some really interesting choices for creatures that you spliced up into one being. I adore the diversity of those choices so much - all of them are amazing animals and it's great to see some influence from them in your design. The actual way you've meshed them together though is fabulous - from the glowing, bulbous tail to the itsy bitsy legs. I can see why you call her Toothpick Legs; I'm personally a huge fan of critters that have elongated, tiny legs. Here, you'd think it'd look ridiculously disproportionate to her body mass, but I actually think it gives it a lovely / fun spin and makes her look quite elegant instead. Those spindly little legs are probably my favorite thing about this, aha.
I love the golden / brownish tone to her overall scheme. Shaded with that purple hue makes it look fabulous, and the blue / white / black complementary colors really make it stand out a lot. Her body is so compact and dainty, almost; I love it. I think that works so well with the idea that she has a good sense of personal hygiene. Man that head is just great - that top carapace, how it's got reddish and blue tones in there with the shading, and you really make it work. The mouth especially though - that glow is fabulous, and I love how the lighting for that extends to her neck, similarly to the lightsource bouncing off the fur near the tail. Dang that mouth is just so nice - and did she break a facial horn somehow? It looks like the one farthest from the camera has gotten broken off a bit. The little feelers / antennae / whiskers / I'm not exactly sure what they are that are coming off her face are pretty cute. This is definitely one of those monsters I'd just love to hug (so it's a good thing she's outgoing / hopefully won't eat me?!).
You should join the group if you're up for it. The entire idea is mashing animals together to make neato monsters and then rping with them, through either comic or written form, whatever floats your boat. The more stuff you do the more abilities and fun things you unlock and can incorporate into new or existing familiars you've already created. Might be right up your alley, if you're interested of course. c:
The creature choices were entirely random from a master list you can find somewhere in the group's journals. Out of a list of five, I was allowed to splice three together into TOOTHPICK LEGS. She did break a facial horn, not sure how. But it probably annoys her greatly, considering the high level of cleanliness she prefers. BUT YES HEZZAJII LOVES HUGS and you should smother her in them. Be prepared for slimy face licks though.
Sadly I'm too inactive on deviantART to be in a very active group at this point. I tend to jump around which site I'm most active at any time (i.e. sometimes it's Tumblr, sometimes it's over here, sometimes over at Flight Rising, etc.) so I don't think long bouts of inactivity would be very good. And since it's also a roleplay group by the looks of it, well, that's very time consuming. It looks really neat; I just don't think I can commit myself to something that intensive when I've got plenty of other things on my plate, whoops.
That is a really neat challenge though, taking three different animals to combine them into something new! You definitely pulled it off very well, and I just love how friendly she is. It makes her quite adorable / endearing. (And I can't get over those spindly little legs. So cute!)
Oh that makes a lot of sense! Making a commitment to something really helps make you more active, or at least gives you more incentive to. C: I hope you have a ton of fun in the group though; it really seems incredibly in your interest range. :D
